What is a tarot reading?

My approach to the tarot is that the cards are a tool for bridging the gaps between our conscious mind, our subconscious, and our hearts. Tarot can bring new perspectives and shine light on a situation that helps us make sense of things, empowering us to choose the best course of action for ourselves. When I do a tarot reading, the goal is to provide things like:

• more perspective and context on a situation

• guidance on how to handle a situation or solve a problem

• insight for decision-making

• empowerment through providing some next steps

• closure or confirmation on an issue

How does a tarot reading work?

To get the best answers, it is important to ask clear questions and to focus our energy on the cards. This could be a particular situation that you need some guidance on or a question you need answered. When I do the reading for you, I will shuffle my deck while meditating on you and your query. I will also decide a spread to use (a layout of cards in which each position has a particular meaning) that will best fit the situation and provide the most value and insight. Then I will lay out the cards in the spread and interpret their meanings in order to answer your question.

Tips for Getting the Most out of a Tarot Reading

• Ask a good question. Yes or no questions are usually not informative enough and you will not get enough insight, so go a bit deeper. For example, instead of asking “Will I get this new job?” ask something like “What can I do to maximize my chances of getting this job, and what are some next steps if it doesn’t work out?”

• If you don’t have a specific question in mind, there may just be a situation that you need guidance on, like a troubling relationship or a choice you’re having trouble making. You can just ask me to focus on a particular area of your life, such as your career, a relationship, your health, etc.

• Focus on yourself. It is best not to ask for a reading about another person that is NOT you, but if your issue involves someone else, that’s ok. In that case, the idea will be to find ways for YOU to handle the situation and what YOU can do. Remember: you can’t solve everyone else’s problems, make people change, or force them to do something. But you CAN decide how you will respond to the situation and do what is best for yourself.

• Approach it with an open mind and heart. The more open you are to finding truth and answers, the more you will get out of it!

What to expect from this tarot reading

A tarot reading takes time and energy, so please be patient and allow me a few days turn-around time. Once I have done the reading, I will send you an email with a document. The document will include a description of your question, the deck(s) I used, the spread I chose, and a detailed explanation of the reading interpretation. This will also include pictures of the full spread and all the cards for your reference.

Why Choose a 1-Card Tarot Reading?

In a one-card reading, I will draw one card to help answer your question. This is best for situations where you might just want a little bit of a nudge about a decision or a bit of confirmation on something you’re thinking about.

Why Choose a 3-Card Tarot Reading?

In a three-card reading, I will draw three cards to help answer your question. This is best for situations where you want a moderate level of insight on a situation; for example: past, present, and future; mind, body, and spirit; or something like “what’s helping, what’s hurting, what to do next”.

Why Choose a 5-Card+ Tarot Reading?

In a reading like this, I will draw at least five cards to help answer your question. This is best for situations where you need extensive insight or guidance on how to handle a situation. Perhaps you need context for two different options for how to proceed with a decision, or you need multiple questions answered about a particular problem (why is this happening? what is the likely outcome here? what can I do about it? how can I change things?).

BONUS: I usually use 2 different decks for a tarot reading: one “normal” deck and a second deck that could be an oracle or another deck that just provides a different perspective. I love doing this because it provides so much more insight and there is a lovely interaction between the cards this way. So for each reading, you will actually get more cards than expected!
