Book Review: Psychic Witch by Mat Auryn

  • Source: random purchase

  • My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (see my review on Goodreads)

I’m gonna be completely transparent here: I bought this book because the cover art was so gorgeous I couldn’t resist. I was delighted to discover that the cover was a great indication of the quality of content to be found on the pages. First off, let me assure you that there are more little bits of this beautiful illustration style all throughout the book — swoon!

But more importantly, Psychic Witch was the book I didn’t know I needed and didn’t know I was looking for at the time. It is one of the first witchy books I ever got the courage to buy, and I have very strong memories of reading it while sitting in my favorite hanging chair. Mat Auryn’s approach to meditation, manifestation, and just generally managing your psychic energy appropriately was a welcome message for me. I’d heard terms like “grounding” and “centering” and suchlike before, but at that point the most I had ever explored was some mindfulness meditation that wasn’t really connected to any sort of spirituality.

Each chapter opened my eyes to so many new concepts, new ideas, and new tools I could possibly incorporate into my budding spiritual practice. I would read a chapter and then go gush to my partner about the mind-expanding things I was learning that connected back to the meditation practices he and I had been learning together. It was with some of the rituals, visualizations, and guided meditations in Psychic Witch that I first experienced what it felt like to be centered and grounded and connected with the energy of the universe. I am forever grateful for this book and its accessible approach to teaching these concepts!

Now that I’m a few years into my practice at a much deeper level, and grown so much as a witch, I will probably be revisiting this book soon before his next one — Mastering Magick — releases later this year!
